DETROIT (Tell Us USA) - Congressman Hansen Clarke, Congressman John Conyers, Jr., 50 plus employers with more than 1,000 available positions, and members of the community come together for "For the People" Jobs Fair and town hall meeting today at Wayne County community College's downtown campus.
This free jobs fair and more included public and private sector employers and job readiness workshops along with seminars. Immediately following the jobs fair, will be a town hall meeting to discuss jobs creation and strengthening the economy. Members of the Congressional Black Caucus will be present, including Chairman Emanuel Cleaver II (MO-5), Maxine Waters (CA-35), Ed Towns (NY-10), James Clyburn (SC-6), Danny K. Davis (IL-7), and Gregory Meeks (NY-6).

According to members of the Congressional Black Caucus, the national unemployment rate for African Americans is 16.9 percent. They say in Metro Detroit it hovers around 30 percent. The job fair is part of an initiative to shrink that number.
Lawmakers say they plan to take concerns to Washington D.C to search for ways to bring more opportunities to Michigan.
MSNBC correspondent Jeff Johnson will moderate the town hall meeting. this Job Fair will be held Tuesday, August 16, at Wayne County Community College District, Downtown Campus 1001 W. Fort St in Detroit from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Town Hall: 6:00 p.m.
