Zenn of Language (Khmer)

So if you want to learn Khmer, the national language of Cambodia, you go to Panom peeen, or as we write Phnom Penh. There is a school for teaching foreigners with wonderful teachers and administrators and people around. Most of the foreigners I found are missionaries or working at NGOs, but I was the only sort of freelancer I think. The "salaa rian," or school, is called Khmer School of Language. I have studied there 8 days of my life only, 5 days in 2009 and 3 in 2010, and this is my progress. I am talking with my teacher about Cambodian history and how actually Cambodia got rather lucky that the French came in to colonize Indochina because at that time Cambodia was in danger of being swallowed up by the Vietnamese from the east and the rising Thais from the west! It is very cool to see connections between languages. Thai and Khmer have Sanskrit vocabulary origins due to ancient India's influence. Take, for example, Andhra Pradesh in India. Pradesh means State. In Thai you say Pratet Thai. It means Country of Thailand. In Khmer you say Brodehh Khmay. It means Country of the Khmers. In Lao you say Patet Lao. It means Country of Lao. And in Malay you saya Negara Malaysia. it means Country of Malaysia. Negar in Hindi/Sanskrit means city!!!
